The U.S. is a nation that was built on the idea of freedom and was built on the backs of immigrants and will continue to be built by them. The U.S. immigrant population stood at more than 43.3 million in the year of 2015 (Zong, J., Zong, J. B., & Batalova, J. (2018, February 08). Between the years 2014 and 2015, the immigrant population had increased by around 900,000, which had been a slower growth rate compared to that of the 2.5 percent increase in 2013 and 2014. India had been the top country of origin of most of the recent immigrants, with around 180,00 arriving in the year 2015, than followed by around 143,200 from China, than near 139,400 from Mexico, along with 47,500 from the Philippines, and another 46,800 from Canada. Since 2005, the Border Patrol has made an effort to deter any unauthorized immigration by increasing the penalties of unauthorized entry; instead of allowing unauthorized immigrants to be voluntarily sent back to their native countries, under the Consequence Delivery System, such immigrants are normally issued formal removal orders that made them unable to come back into the country for at least five years, and in some cases they could also be permanently unable and they may even face criminal charges if they attempt to re-enter again unlawfully. The predominance of Asian and Latin American immigration in the late 20th and early 21st centuries that greatly contrasts to the trend of 1960, which was when the immigrants largely originated from Europe. But, President Trump reduced that max to 50,000 and than suspended all refugee requests for 120 days, starting March 16, 2017. As of March 6, 2017, around 37,000 refugees (75 percent of the changed max ceiling), including around 5,500 Syrians, had come into the United States. (Zong, J., Zong, J. B., ; Batalova, J. An estimated 11.4 million unauthorized immigrants in January of 2012 were living in the United States compared to 11.5 million on January 2011, according to the most recent estimations issued by the DHS Office of Immigration Statistics. Central America and Mexico accounted for the majority of the undocumented immigrants that were in the United States as of 2010-14, with MPI estimating that their numbers were about 7.9 million. Between the October of 2016 and January of 2017, the U.S. Border Patrol captured about 26,000 unaccompanied children (UACs) and around 54,000 family groups along the Southwest border. Also, it asked for an end to the so-called catch and release practices, where unauthorized immigrants are captured at the border and than released into the United States while they are awaiting there court hearings. Also, on September of the year 2017, President Trump had announced plans to get out of the time of DACA, which he said, along with DAPA, were “illegal actions that President Obama did”, but challenges in the judicial courts have been preventing him from ending DACA. President Trump had ended the family separation policy in June of 2018 due to widespread protests of it.

In the year 2015, near 51 percent of all immigrants who had came to the U.S. were the female gender, and the percentage has been fluctuating little by little during the last three decades; women had accounted for near 53 percent of the immigrants in 1980, around 51 percent in 1990, and near 50 percent in the year 2000. The last time legislators had come close to significant immigration reforms was in the year of 2013, when the Democrat-held Senate tried to pass a comprehensive reform bill that would have given undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, but the bill did not receive enough votes in the Republican-held House of Representatives. Obama had characterized this move as a “stopgap measure” and than urged Congress to pass the Dream Act, this legislation was first introduced in 2001 and would benefit many of the same people. Also, as of March 2018, over eight hundred thousand had taken advantage of the DACA executive order. (The U.S. Immigration Debate. (n.d.). In the year 2014, Obama attempted to extend some more similar benefits to as much as five million undocumented parents of U.S. citizens. (The U.S. Immigration Debate. (n.d.). Although immigration has been occurring throughout all of American history, large-scale immigration has been occurring during just four main peak periods: one of these peaks is the migration of people to the original colonies, the second one was westward expansion during the middle of the 19th century, and the third one was during the rise of cities at the round of the 20th century. These peak periods of immigration have happened during fundamental changes of the American economy. The political debate of the United States for our current immigration policy has been leaving the United States citizens divided; through ethnics, racial and political lines, that our nation has never had this strength before. It has gone far past the boundaries of our political spectrum, for it has been leaving the general public of the U.S. and its political parties scattering to keep a sense of what is truly wrong and what is truly right. The Immigration Reform policies have been directly affecting the future of the U.S. throughout our nation’s history. (Political Consequences of Immigration Reform: Immigration Reform Bill. The decision to be either in favor or against a way to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who are already living in the U.S. has lead to backlash from both parties depending upon what those parties representatives decide. I believe in regard to the politics of immigration that our country is going to be become more and more split on what we need to do. Also, I believe that every time one party has the majority control of the government they will be trying to put in place their own political plans and laws. Furthermore I believe that the political parties are going to go nowhere while all they want to do is oppose each other rather than listen to what’s best for our nation and our people’s safety. Also, based on the data I got I found that the number of illegal immigrants has gone down. In addition the number of people who return after being deported has gone down. I also found throughout my data that the majority of people like immigration and find that its useful for our nations to be able to flourish.
