The Mayflower compact was the first document to establish self-government in the New World. It created in 1620 by Pilgrims who travel into the New World seek for settlement and the religious freedom faraway from Church of England. Their destination supposed to be Virginia instead they end up in Massachusetts. So, to survived they must create their own self-government to maintain the peace among others.
The Mayflower compact was a social contract in the form of a sacred covenant sworn before God. It was the document which established that, everyone in the colony must stay loyal to the motherland, despite their need for self-governance, the colonists would help each other and follow the Bible. And the result of the compact is very well It remained active for seventy years Plymouth Colony united and became the part of Massachusetts Bay Colony.
