April 4                      Easter Sunday – Join together in celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord

                                          No Sunday School

Sunday School:

During this rotation,  will be looking at the passion story through the eyes of Peter.  Peter’s is a story of devotion, fallings and forgiveness.  This rotation will continue through March 28th, with a family worship scheduled for March 7th.  During the service on March 7th, we will be celebrating the completion of the communion education class by our third graders.  Be sure to come with your family to worship God and show our third grade class your support as a church family.

Sunday School Mission Activity:

During our Lenten Rotation we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Sutton Pantry.  Please have your child bring a non-perishable food item with them to Sunday School where we will accept and bless the items.

We will also continue to collect new socks for men and women (no children’s please) and small individual size toiletry items until March 14th.  In past years when the confirmation class went to Boston to work and learn about the homeless people there, we found that new socks were among the most appreciated gift we could offer and there never seems to be enough of the small individual toiletry items.

Confirmation Class and Senior Youth:

The Confirmation Class and senior youth will be participating in Ecclesia Ministries, City Reach on March 19 – 20th.  This is an opportunity to learn about homelessness from people who are homeless or who have been homeless by offering hospitality, food, and clothing.  We will be going to Boston to sleep over and participate in this program.  We will be distributing food and clothing to the homeless people in that area.  We have been requested to bring a number of items and now ask for your help in gathering these items.

Please Help!!!!

Clothing and Other Items Needed

Please do not bring children’s clothes, dress clothes, slippers, bathrobes, pajamas.  Think about what you would wear camping or hiking.  Such rugged, comfortable clothes is just what is needed.  Also, we will have about 4 times the number of male guests as female guests, so about 80% of what you bring should be for men or unisex.  Large sizes (XL,XXL, and XXXL) are very much in demand but small women’s sizes are helpful also.

·         ***All kinds of carrying cases such as backpacks, tote bags, fanny packs, small suitcases with wheels (used and in good condition)

·         ***Toiletries such as bars of soap, shampoo, deodorant, hand and body lotion, chap stick, tooth paste, and shaving cream in small sizes, as well as tooth brushes and disposable razors.

·         ***New white socks (there can never be too many of these)

·         New underwear (again, there can never be too many and be sure to bring 80% of the underwear for men but women NEED them too!)

·         New white T-shirts for men

·         Sleeping bags (used or in good condition)

·         USED CLOTHING, including:

·         Sweat shirts and sweat pants, especially hooded sweatshirts

·         Nylon jackets, ponchos and raincoats

·         Sweaters

·         T-shirts

·         Long-sleeve shirts

·         Jeans, khakis and other casual pants (80 % for men)

·         Waterproof boots, comfortable shoes, and sneakers

·         Hats, waterproof gloves, coats

·         Belts

(The top three starred items on this list are greatly sought after.  Backpacks and carrying bags with straps, new or like new, seem to be in great need)

If you can help us by donating any of these items, please bring them in prior to March 8th.  They can be dropped off in the Box in the Christian Education Hallway or see Deb Edgerton or one of the confirmands or senior youth.  We appreciate your help in this very important mission work.  Thank you!!!!

As always, your input in all of our Christian Education programs is encouraged and welcomed.   If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please feel free to see me at church, call or e-mail me.  I always look forward to hearing from you.  My new e-mail address is edgerton_deb@yahoo.com

Peace and Blessings,

Deb

Veggie Tales in Preschool

The Preschool class is using a Veggie Tale curriculum.  If you have any Veggie Tale toys that your children have outgrown, please think about donating them to our Preschool.  Thank you!

Each child received an October F.R.O.G calendars.  Each day your child prayed should be colored in.  Be sure to remind your child to bring in their October F.R.O.G. calendar to receive a special prize.  If your child didn’t get to it this month – the November calendars will be given out on Nov. 1st, make sure that they have one!  There is nothing more important to your child’s relationship with God than prayer.  Praying can take place anytime, anywhere and for any reason!  Pray with your child, encourage your child to pray alone, allow your child to see you in times of prayer.  What holds us the most and the longest are those times when we are taught by example.  Be that example for your child!

We have been using the Rotational Method in Sunday School for six years now.  I have gotten many positive responses about this program.  I am always interested in your input as to how our Sunday School is working for your family whether your child is in pre-school or seventh grade.  I continue to look for ways to improve our programs so that we can reach and interest the most children.  In order to do this I look to you for input on what may not be working and what you think is working the best. I hope that you will share with me both the positive and negative aspects of our Sunday School program.  Please stop me on Sunday morning, call me at church, or e-mail me (edgertondeb@yahoo.com) with your thoughts.  Your thoughts, concerns and ideas will be gratefully appreciated.

I always appreciate your questions, comments and suggestions.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone at church, at home (860) 923-2077 or by e-mail edgertondeb@yahoo.com

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday!  Deb

 NEW! KIDS' CLUB

Calling all youth in grades 3-5th and their parents! This group would meet one Friday night a month (same night as the Middle School’s Teen Night Out). The Kids Club would offer youth, in this age group, fun games, fellowship, cooking projects (pizza making, cookie making, chocolate mud etc) and fun activities for both girls and boys. If you would like to make this idea a vital ministry for our church, please see Victoria. The dates for Kids Club are listed below and this group would be open to all youth in grades 3-5 in our community.

CLOWN MINISTRY
The young “clowns” have courage and self-confidence to try something different. Each clown in our ministry naturally possesses one or more of the qualities above. Their skits are brief with messages shared through stories. You have to pay attention when they perform. They go into immediate action to connect with you NOW.

Acting the part of a clown is a great way for preteens and teens to "step out" of themselves. A shy, quiet, teen can become more confident and self assured because he or she has joined a clown ministry team. (The makeup and outfits do wonders.) -- The clowns act out theological skits in church, perform skits in nursing homes, preschools, senior centers and children's hospitals.   If interested in learning more, please contact Reverend Victoria Snow.
