For more than 275 years, First Congregational Church of Sutton has ministered to the Sutton community, providing a spiritual

house where generations of men, women and children have worshiped, laughed and cried, dreamed dreams and tried to respond to the call of God.

Today our church continues to proclaim Jesus’ message of Love, Hope and Joy as we look toward the challenges and opportunities of ministry ahead.

The mission of the First Congregational Church of Sutton is to serve God by sharing the teaching, faith, love and forgiveness of Christ. Providing an open and caring place of worship. Serving our church family and community in the spirit of charity and faith.

WE DEPEND ON YOUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITMENT

Our annual stewardship pledge drive is underway.  If you have not already returned your pledge card, please do so.  If you do not have a copy of the pledge card, please print the attached PDF and return to our church office. Learn more about what stewardship means.

MAKING WORSHIP ACCESSIBLE FOR YOU

Did you know that here at First Church, we strive to make our worship accessible and friendly to all worshippers?

  • As you enter the church each week, you will notice that we have large print bulletins available.
  • Also we have special hearing assistance devices, available to all worshippers. These devices plug into our sound system and can be accessed through several of the pews that have been wired for these wonderful aids.
  • We also have a handicap ramp at the side of the building. This ramp leads the worshipper right to the front of our sanctuary, so that they can be an active part of the congregation.
  • In addition, the Deacons are more than willing to provide transportation to and from worship, for those who are in need of this service. If you would like a ride to church, please call the church office at 508-865-6914.

WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP OF SUTTON

The Women’s Fellowship of Sutton is an ecumenical group based at First Congregational Church. Our mission is to offer support to our members, the church and our community.  The group awards annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors.  We maintain a ‘Home and Community’ fund to help people with emergency needs.

Regular meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month.  Meetings can be held in the church or in someone’s home.  Meetings are social and educational - and hopefully contribute to the treasury.  A popular new tradition is a pot luck supper on a summer evening with family and friends.  Our biggest fund raiser is the annual Flea Market, held in June.

The WFS hosts the April and September coffee hours.  In each of those months we have a hot dog lunch one Sunday, and a bake sale another.

The group is available to help with parties and funeral receptions.

Please call Nancy at 865-4907 with questions.

THE MINISTRIES OF OUR CHURCH FAMILY

As we gather once again as a community of believers, let us remember that our gifts and talents are given to our God, to further the ministry of Jesus Christ here in Sutton and beyond. The pledges and weekly financial gifts that you generously give to God, allow this church to provide such ministries as the following:

Sunday School: We are blessed to have so many children and youth in our church. Our wonderful Sunday School program allows our children to explore their faith, the teachings of our Lord, and grow in their understanding of what it means to be a Christian. The Sunday School program is designed to capture our children's attention, engage them in active learning activities and help them develop a strong moral foundation that will serve them throughout their lives.

Youth Group: Both the Senior High and Junior Youth Group allows our youth the opportunity to deepen their faith through missions projects that afford them the opportunity to put their faith into action. Our youth programs also allow our youth to have fun in a safe and secure environment, explore their own talents and gifts, grow as individuals, and develop leadership skills.

Choirs: Our adult choir, junior choir and cherub choir gives our entire church family the opportunity to express their faith through music. While members broaden their musical skills, they are also able to enjoy the fellowship of other church members, share their gifts with the congregation, and reach out to those who are in need of the gift of music. On several occasions members of our adult choir have visited shut-ins to share their gift of music with them.

Missions: Our missions committee has just completed their "Souls for Souls" campaign. Through your generous donations, we were able to provide shoes to children who could not afford cleats for sports, shoes for women and men who are returning to the work force, shoes for families who cannot afford them, and shoes for people in third world countries. Your generosity allowed us to donate over 280 pairs of shoes and to bring the gift of God's love to those in need. This committee has also helped provide food for the homeless in Worcester.

Good Sam: The Good Sam Fund helps provide food for those who are hungry here in Sutton. This fund has also been used to help members of our church and community pay for their electric bills, purchase heating oil, and pay for medical prescriptions. Your donations to this fund are very much appreciated.

Confirmation Program: Our confirmation program allows our youth to learn about their faith, explore their own beliefs, participate in City Reach, help the homeless, partner with an adult mentor of our congregation, and grow as individuals. This program helps our young people discover their own talents, gifts, and beliefs that will help them as they continue to mature into adults.

Weekly worship. Through weekly worship the entire faith community is able to come together as God's people to deepen our understanding of what it means to be a child of God, to explore the lessons of scripture, to pray for each other, to join our voices in praise with each other and to deepen our faith and commitment to God. It is through our work as the body of Christ that we are able to grow as God's faithful people.

While these are only a small example of the ministries that are supported by this church, it is clear to see through these ministries that your financial gifts are working hard to share the good-news of the Gospels with our faith community and beyond. Your gifts make the work of Jesus Christ possible here in Sutton.
